At first I was confused. How did Katie find the time in her busy schedule to teach at Yale and now we know it was you who taught at Yale. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I suspect part of the problem is the American obsession with celebrities.
Although I don't believe governments should harrass journalists, I do think the mainstream global press has failed us by being overly partisan (favoring the Left in the US) and lacking in due diligence when it comes to reporting on many issues. Regarding the former, how did the Press give Biden a pass for so long without investigating and reporting on his declining mental health? Regarding the latter, why has the Press believed and spread every lie that Hamas and its supporters churn out without waiting to confirm the facts? For example, reporting that Israel had bombed a hospital early in the war when it turned out the bomb came from Hamas and, more recently, unquestioningly repeating UN Tom Fletcher's outlandish and false statement that 14,000 Gazan babies will die within 48 hours? Why is there no major media skepticism regarding the claims of Hamas, a terrorist organization, but instead constant skepticism regarding actions taken by Israel? The Press needs to start reporting facts, not creating them. Maybe then people will be more concerned about authoritarian crackdowns.
Scary stuff. Thanks for ringing the alarm. I do hope places like Substack are safer than legacy media outlets.
